Zoning Board of Appeals Defined
Along with the other appointed and elected municipal officials in the township, members of a zoning board of appeals accept responsibility to protect the personality and vitality of the community. To carry out their duties, these volunteers must digest a mountain of information and negotiate a maze of delicate situations.

Duties
- The Zoning Board of Appeals shall act upon all questions as they may arise in the administration of the Zoning Ordinance, including the interpretation of the zoning maps.
- The scope of such duties shall not take precedence over or impinge upon the manner of administering and enforcing the Zoning Ordinance as set forth in the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance or with the powers and duties with the Planning Commission, the Department of Building and Code Enforcement and the Board of Trustees.
- The Zoning Board of Appeals shall hear and decide appeals from and review any order, requirement, decision or determination made by an administrative official of the Department of Building and Code Enforcement charged with enforcement of the Zoning Ordinance.
- The Zoning Board of Appeals shall hear and decide all matters referred to it or upon which it is required to pass by the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance.
